Deian McBryde: Survey says...
LISTENER REVIEWS
SEPTET conjures up wonderfully mood altering songs. Snuggle into your favorite chair and sip a smooth, silky beverage as the horns, piano and Deian’s sultry voice take you down a path as comfortable as an old pair of slippers. But buyer beware! Because you’ll be tapping your feet and ready to kick up your heels when Route 66 and Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy come bopping through your stereo. Don’t try to fight it, get up and find the nearest dance partner, even your pets will be wagging their tails at these updated classics.

The album looks and sounds great. The band is really tight, really sharp. And your vocals are beautiful, great pitch and expression. The arrangements are fresh and your interpretations exciting. I heard Stuff Like That There on the radio a few weeks back and thought how much I preferred your version! What I love the most about how you sing is I'm never sure how you're going to phrase things, and I love that element of surprise. It's never done as others do it. I’m so glad I could have been a part of Je Survivrai. It’s one of those things where the whole becomes more than the sum of its parts, it has magic. Congrats - you must be very proud.
I really like this cd. There isn't a bad cut in all of the 7 tracks. I especially enjoyed Blue Champagne, Je Survivrai, and All I Wanna Do. Deian and the PGO take the old big band swing tune Blue Champagne and really makes it modern. I Will Survive -- who would have thought to do it as a ballad? I could see this becoming a real jazz classic. Everyone will want to do it. Things ramp up again with a very classy Route 66. The CD culminates with a very exciting version of All I Wanna Do. Sheryl Crow never sang about Santa Monica Boulevard like this!

A really nifty ensemble of songs. Raciest 'Bugle Boy' I ever expect to hear, but totally in control. Deian knows how to string together some unexpected material (I love 'All I Wanna Do' after the other stuff...). And vocally he really fits himself into the band's sound, more than 'fronting'. Sweeeet.

I loved SEPTET! Deian backed by really fine musicians! Especially loved the French version of I WIll Survive. Beautiful French, beautifully sung. Love when Deian sings sad, soulful ballads.
